Recomended specs for my gaming pc

my current specs for my pc are GeForce GXT 960, Intel Pentium G3258 @ 3.2ghz, 8GB RAM, I'm quite new to building computers and this was my first build and I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and CPU any recommendations for a good affordable GPU and CPU I'm aiming to spend around $500 - $600 combined

What motherboard and psu do you have?

for the cpu look at the 4590 if you have local micro center they were 160.00. for the gpu wait for the newer pascal cards to drop and the amd ones latter this year. there going to be faster then the older 900 line and use less power. with the new cpu pick up a h7 cooler to keep it cool. the stock plastic intel coolers not that great.

Any 4th gen locked i5 would be great. The 4590 mentioned above is a very good choice. I would not upgrade the gpu without also upgrading the psu though.

yes I had a look at that one and it is in my price range and has good specs, my friend has a spare 600w psu, or would you recommend something higher?

What model is the 600w? There really aren't any good 600w psus.
