Recommend a fan to blow on the GPUs

Hi all, i've had many posts on this topic. I just replaced my 200mm stock fan with 2 corsair AF140 fans on the side panel to blow on the GPUs and it helped my top card cool down quite a bit. It's still pretty hot, this is the last thing I'm going to add. Can you please recommend the best fan I could buy to use in the spot shown in yellow (don't worry about that mess of cables, I cleaned it up). Cost doesn't matter, I'm just not sure what whether or not i'm supposed to get a static pressure fan or airflow one. All I am aiming for is getting GPU 1 cool. I'm thinking that fan can blow air inbetween GPU #1 and #2.

Also, I guess it's not a huge deal, but whichever one of those "best" fans is thinnest, that'd probably be preferable as the 980 is kinda long.

One other thing, not sure if it matters but there are 2 stock intake fans in front of the drive cages in case you can't see them.

Thank you!

so starting with the stock fans, are they corsair too, I can kind of see a logo but can't be sure, if they are, they should be static pressure, I would add another static pressure fan where you drew the line, I assume there is a mount point there? or are you modding the case to allow that? either way a static pressure fan will force more air between the GPU's

The 2 fans there are the stock ones that came with the 500r case. I'm not really sure whether they are airflow or static pressure. They aren't really pushing too much air though, that's for sure.

I know there are mounting points. Will I be able to mount it? I'm really not sure. It gets a bit close quarters around the gpu there. I may trying laying it in the drive cage if I can't get it mounted. If that's not a good idea or it won't work I'll just keep the fan I guess until I get a bigger case.

That being said, would the corsair SP120 high performance fan be the best option then?

if the 2 stock ones aren't doing much, replace them with an SP on the bottom and an AF on top, unless there is normally a HDD bay there which has been removed, if thats the case, get 2 SP's, see if that fixes the issue

Actually that's exactly what I did. I removed the drive cage in the middle there as shown in the pic. My goal is to get air shoved inbetween those GPUs. Ok, so static is the way to go. Thank you,

So i don't mind replacing those 2 intake one's (SP for bottom, AF for top), but what should the one be that is colored in yellow in the picture? An sp?

yes, although you may find that ones you have good fans in the front of the case you may not need to add the third one, just fyi the corsair LED ranges work just as well as the normal if you want to keep the glow to the front of your case

Yeah you're probably right. The LEDs are kind of take it or leave it for me. I have the 2 corsair fans on the side which are neat enough.

I ended up getting 2 noctua fans. I got their 120mm static NF12 or something, and then their 120mm airflow one. Those 2 are for the top cage their (static to blow on gpu, airflow for the top stock replacement).

With that in mind I have 2 last questions:

#1 - Would it be worth it to replace the back exhaust stock fan with a noctua fan as well? Should that one be an airflow fan?

#2 - in terms of power, those 2 stock intake fans in the picture are hooked up to some kind of power source in the case. Will they get the same amount of power from whatever clip they are hooked up to in the case, as opposed to putting them on one of my 12v molex to 3-pin fan adapters? Reason being, I'm running out of perif slots in my power supply, if possible, I'd like to keep the replacement fans on the case power supply cable, but I don't want it to limit their power.

#3 Would it be benefical to place a static fan on the bottom to the right of the PSU facing up?

Thanks!

so number 1, yes replace that fan, you need a way of getting the hot air out of your case

2 normally high quality fans will plug into the motherboard not the PSU, they will either have a 3 pin or a 4 pin connector, don't think the 3 pin have a particular name but the 4 pin ones are called PWR, the difference being that the the 4 pin speeds can be controlled by the motherboard, so if you are watching a film on netflixs, the fans will slow down so they are quieter, then when gaming, they will max to increase airflow, 3 pin can only be controlled by a fan controller, but then once you have one they can be used in the same way, a 3 pin fan plugged into the motherboard will be set to max RPM and that can't be changed.

3 if you can get a fan on there and the case is on feet that allow airflow underneath the case, and the case is stood on a solid surface, then yes adding a SP fan there will help push more cool air onto the bottom GPU, which will be the hottest one as the heat sinks about it will be blowing air onto it
