Hi All,
Can anyone recommend a good hdd diagnostic and most importantly repair utility to recover bad sectors. Free would be great but needs to be under $30 or whatever you can suggest.
TIA
Michael
Your hard drive vendor will have a free proprietary utility. For WD it is data lifeguard.
Sectors that are hard to read can be reallocated to spare sectors.
You don't repair bad sectors. You back up your data and get a new drive. Chkdsk works fine
Thanks. What I meant was a utility that can relocate bad sectors, isn't that possible? I'm hoping someone can just recommend a good utility, that's all I'm looking for. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I tried Seatools for my Seagate drives but strangely they don't detect anything wrong, but the S.M.A.R.T. says it's got 5% life left using Acronis disk monitor. Chkdsk stops at 10% so I know there is something defiitely wrong with it. I' already got a new drive and restored my latest backup but would like to fix the old one for emergency or swapping data around etc, if that's possible.
