Recommend good external HDD.

I know there's loads of reviews regarding external HDDs but all they're concerned with is the performance rather than the features.

I'm looking for a 3TB USB3 external drive but it must either have a manual power switch or turn itself off when not in use. I'd probably prefer the first option.

I don't see the point in an external backup drive that is always on. I might as well just add an extra drive into my PC. Maybe that is actually my best option.

All I need it for is backing up videos, games etc. Nothing critical and tbh I usually just start from scratch if a drive dies. Decided it's time to take control of my data!

The Lacie is a good drive, use one to back up my MacBook Pro. For my desktop PC I am using a WD My Book 3TB drive for backups. I've yet to have any problems with either drive.
