Recommend GPU For My Antique

For gaming. It is my brother's PC. He had the video card replaced by some hack and it keeps popping up with red checkers when he runs Team Fortress 2 and sometimes surfing online. He had a GPU installed before which is why he had it replaced originally. Also, all drivers up-to-date.

Left 4 Dead 2 and Half Life 2 run fine but what I have read indicate a failing GPU.

The Nvidia 750ti 2gb seems to be the one that works for pretty much everyone using a pre-built system with a minimally powered PSU. The AMD RX 460 is a bit more powerful, and there are models which do not require a 6 pin connector like the 750ti. I believe there is a GTX 950 that does not require a 6 pin but it might cost too much to be a good value.

Thanks for the replies about the 750 Ti. Any idea if that would be overboard considering the CPU? I mean, will the CPU bottleneck it to a high degree? Would it be wiser to get a cheaper video card since I will hit the same bottleneck?

Just want an idea before I drop $100.
