Can anyone recommend a good graphics card <$100 to replace my NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB.

If you look and are in the US you can find a Radeon HD 7750 under $100

Tom's does a best graphics card for the money every month.

No, motherboards aren't restricted to AMD or Nvidia unless you're going to use crossfire or sli (where you would need 2 pci e slots capable of such)
