Hi! I'd like to revive my old Ryzen 1700 to add a computing node to tiny cluster. I have some components for my build, but I must purchase a motherboard, price in the 50-100 range. I am looking at the Gigabyte S2H and DS3H lines, B450 or B550, and the Asus TUF or Prime B450 lines, mATX would be fine.

There should be room for overclocking. It would be a shame not to overclock that processor, I remember mine reaching 3.8GHz with no effort. I will not try to set any records, of course.

I found some acceptable offers for B450M/B550M S3H and DS3H, and one for Asus TUF B450M-Plus II.

I was about to get the latter, then I realised the Gigabyte lines are significantly cheaper, however, I have no experience with Gigabyte. For example, in terms of slots, ports, etc., S3H would be sufficient, but the price gap with the rest is rather shocking (too good to be true?

What would you recommend?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

price in the 50-100 range
What currency are we dealing with? USD, British pound, Euro's?

Stick to B450 or B350. Where are you located and what is your preferred site for purchase?

Cauton. Many if not all 500 series chipset MBs don't support first Ryzen series and others may refuse to work with latest BIOS that supports Ryzen 5000.
