hi I m trying to decide whether to go with an I5 8400 computer or I7 8700. I will use it for editing video. I looked up their specs and pricing. My question, is the price differernce of $250 really worth it? i5 is $550 and i7 is $800. I d like to get the most out of my buck and I am in a budget. It looks like i5 clock speed in boost is around 3.9 ghz compared with i7 4.3 ghz. how would this relate in rendering time?

Nothing beats Ryzen if you are rendering, 8 cores vs 6? And the price is actually really good:

Less than 300$ for CPU and mobo.

If you're doing editing, why would you go with Intel in the first place? Ryzen would be a much better option (Unless you're using the Adobe suite). As for if it's worth it, that's subjective. How much is your time worth? If you think it's worth the extra $250, then you should spend the money.

No, actually... Intel performs better in the Adobe suite. It's why Hardware Canucks switched back to them.
