[SOLVED] Recommendation for upgrading graphics card on a Dell Precision T7600 workstation?

Hi all,

I have a Dell Precision T7600 workstation for about 4 years now. Current specs:

Processor: 2 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2687W 0 @ 3.10GHz, 3101 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)

Ram: 128 gb @ 1600 MHz DIMM

Motherboard: 0VHRW1, version A03

Video GPU: nVidia Geforce GTX Titan X

So the Titan X has been pretty good with games and graphics work. I use zbrush and Maya, and also substance painter and marmoset. I do want to upgrade to an RTX card especially for the new features for marmoset, though I'm not sure if the latest and most expensive ie. RTX 3090 would be compatible. Can anyone recommend a more powerful card that is an RTX that would be compatible with my dell system? Budget isn't a big issue. Thanks

Your current titan X needs both a 6 and an 8 pin aux pcie power lead.
Stronger cards will need two 8 pin connectors. More if they are heavily factory overclocked.

Using adapters to get an extra 8 pin connector is not recommended.

Your power supply may be proprietary.
That will be a problem if you need to upgrade it.
A standard ATX psu will have rear dimensions of 86mm x 150mm.
Depth can vary.

If it is a H1100EF-00 or derivative. 3 12v rails. 2x8 pins for cpu1 and 2 and a 3rd 8pin unmarked. also has 2x6 pins. I am pretty sure all these PSU's share the same wiring harness as it is removable.

I've checked all the 24 pin outputs before and it lines up with ATX Specs, but I have only every used it in in Dell workstations before.

If it is the H1300EF-00. I am not sure, but i believe it uses a 20pin dell spec

Titian x pulls 275 watts and the 3090 is 350w with either PSU you should be fine. Total system Power draw should be around 850-900w with the 3090

Compatible, yes, I believe so, as far as card vs mobo. Although there are some concerns with fitting inside the case with some Dell workstations as they use a powerboard, 8pin to pcie (supplemental?), 8pin to CPU1, 8pin to CPU2 and 20pin to motherboard/drives.

2 slot cards are no issue, the 3090 for most is a 3slot, but there are some 2 slot derivatives.

So it'll boil down to your exact setup and case fitment and psu connectors.
