Hello friends

About SSD 2.5'' for 1TB, all the laptops have the following SSD:

My uncle prefers Samsung for his laptop

I did do a research on Amazon and I found:

  1. Samsung 870 EVO SATA III SSD 1TB 2.5” Internal Solid State Drive, Upgrade PC or Laptop Memory and Storage for IT Pros, Creators, Everyday Users, MZ-77E1T0B/AM - US$ 99.99
  2. Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SATA 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-77E1T0) US$ 99.99
  3. Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E1T0B/AM) US$ 149.99

According with your knowledge

1) What is the difference between 1 and 2? Both are 870 EVO but exists 2 links
2) What is better and why? Evo 870 or Evo 860?
I am doing this question because the latter is more expensive than the former.
Therefore perhaps there is something to be take it in consideration
And I always have the consideration that a new model not always is better than the previous model
3) If you have other recommendation, pls share it and indicate it why

Thanks in advance

There have been some reported "problems" with the 870 EVO.
But I can't imagine Samsung has not addressed these.

I have 2x 860 EVO, several years old. Zero problems.

But if the laptop already has a 1TB WD, there is nothing wrong with leaving it.
I put WD and Samsung on the same level as far as 'reliability'.

I'd only change if it were a significant capacity increase.

Basically the same. Probably different product batch.

They are quite similar.
Newer model is not necessary better than older version.

Crucial MX500 is also a good alternative.

There have been some reported "problems" with the 870 EVO.

Can you share some of them?

But I can't imagine Samsung has not addressed these.

Good point, but how to know if Amazon is selling the new updated batch?

I have 2x 860 EVO, several years old. Zero problems.

That's a good signal

But if the laptop already has a 1TB WD, there is nothing wrong with leaving it.

His laptop has the original SSD yet - 500GB - so is unknown if is WD or not. But he is already thinking in a manufacturer to upgrade to 1TB. Thus he thought in Samsung

In my first post 1TB was about my machines, his laptop is 500GB

I put WD and Samsung on the same level as far as 'reliability'.

Just in case, what of them you prefer and why?

I'd only change if it were a significant capacity increase.

It is his case

Basically the same. Probably different product batch.

Has sense, but according with the link's description, seems "better" the first one

They are quite similar.

Ok

Newer model is not necessary better than older version.

Just as I thought/considered, but you have a confirmation between them?

Crucial MX500 is also a good alternative.

Do you have a direct experience with that product?

Thanks to all for the information

If you're going to upgrade regarding size....
Samsung 860 or 870 EVO
Crucial MX 500
WD Blue

Any of those.

Huge thanks for the reply

The list shown is based in your own preference?
So Should I assume that Crucial is better than WB Blue?

I also have an MX500, 1TB in my main system.
Flawless, and will be transferred into the new system I'm building.

Thanks for that. Just being curious. How long you have been using that MX500 to take your current decision?

Is better the
Crucial BX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-Inch Internal SSD, up to 540MB/s - CT1000BX500SSD1, Solid State Drive
than the
Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD, up to 560MB/s - CT1000MX500SSD1

Thank You

Those 3 were in no particular order. I rate them about the same.

The MX500 has been running basically 24/7 for 2 years.

The 860 EVOs for about 3 years and 5 years each.

MX500 is better. It has DRAM cache.
BX500 has no DRAM and has weaker/ less consistent performance. That's why it is cheaper.

Thanks for the confirmation

According with your experience, if you can buy the MX500 and WD Blue
What would be your option and why?

Again huge thanks for the feedback.

MX500 is better. It has DRAM cache.
BX500 has no DRAM and has weaker/ less consistent performance.

Just in case for each SSD
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-BX500-NAND-2-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B07YD579WM

Does not appear the DRAM term. Thus how did you know that difference?

BX500 has no DRAM and has weaker/ less consistent performance. That's why it is cheaper.

Just in case and perhaps an unexpected coincidence

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-BX500-NAND-2-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B07YD579WM US$56.06
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-500GB-NAND-Internal/dp/B0786QNS9B US$ 49.99

Thank You
