I just gave my RCA VHS camera to my son and daughter-in-law. I was always
pleased with it except for its bulky size. I'd like the groups
recommendations on the best digital video camera in the $300 range. I know
that the more you pay the more you get but the budget is $300.

I don't care about bells and whistles. This camera is for simple home
videos, vacation shots, etc. Originally I was holding out for a camera that
would take good quality stills but I've given up on that since the price of
those cameras is too high. I was hoping it would replace my video camera and
my (no zoom) older still digital camera.

Now the only requirements are decent video images and sound (at least as
good as the VHS camera), a rechargeable battery, and zoom capability. I have
looked on-line quite a bit but I'd like input from users.

Thanks

I don't know about video camera but $300 is right on the money for a canon
a70/a75 powershot. I did a lot of research and the best still camera for
that price is that canon model, it can take videos too, with sound but is
primarily for stills.
