recommendations for a scanner

it will mainly be to scan photos, and "photocopy" documents [ie normal home use and nothing fancy]

what do you recommend, ideally USB[2 if poss bit not essential]?

i was thinking of the canon lide30 but wonder if there is anything that will so a similar job and cheaper?

Lide30 is a nice unit dude, If you want to scan photos you wouldent want to go to a lower res than 1200dpi, If you double the size of an image you halve the resolution, so if you start at 600dpi and double the size of a 6x4 glossy, it would go down to 300dpi and you would notice the difference
