Good morning all,
My PC is currently running 8x2 of DDR4 3600 MHz cl16-16-16-36.
I'm looking to upgrade to 32 or 64 (cause why not), but I'm having issues finding memory that meets the same specification.
I can either find plenty of 3600 Cl18, or cl16-19-19-39.
I also found a 4000 kit, but it's cl18-22-22-42.
Is that small change in timing small enough that it doesn't matter?
Any recommendations?

System specs-
5800x3d
Radeon VII
MPG X570 Gaming Edge

There are thousands of threads on site that discuss mixing/matching memory. Results can vary widely.

For best performance, install only matched memory, sold as a pair (2) or set (4).

For best performance, a pair is generally faster than populating all four memory slots.

3600 is normally going to be better for you than the 4000,due to 4000 changing to Gear 2 mode, which increases latency dramatically.

With an x3d AM4 CPU ram timings really don't make much of a difference. The x3d cache more than makes up for slower timings. Faster timings don't really make a difference when compared to a non x3d cpu.

Personally I would stick to 32 GB (2X16), 4 sticks of 8GB could pose a problem.

That being said if I were in your situation, I would try and hunt down a similar 2X16 3600mhz 16-16-16-36 used kit on ebay that allows returns in case your CPU doesn't jive with it. I'd still be looking for samsung B-die as that seams to work rather well with AMD AM4. Something like this: Although I would confirm the seller will take returns if it fails memtest & comfim the 2860 markings on both dimms. Price is worth a swing & RGB! https://www.ebay.com/itm/116165902347?itmmeta=01HWYKF9DN0QBKP16561SF1722&hash=item1b0c07000b:g:jF8AAOSwbzVmMiqG&itmprp=enc:AQAJAAAA8MvdTDFt1eBImw4DLWV69FxUp5mt6ayBDnN9SNCTmhSOqPZFta6XUAIwvuGS4Vul2Pk+awFTygss+S6dp0q2QawKirR0VbERf4oZCgtpOlSyhyN2I/FK+5xSgaqf/vExtIYb+Hj1BY1UxMEp+Aqwo7B0qFy7K0tpRE4yUDsgw+LGEMQKebk0eMggTmWelTSbYSMh5MMxsXGsfVhZNNwiNNXDGWDTdTiM9nJEhKa4gXQmuBYj4bwgc+jH169kZVeAwkjbkprvxRl23UqJ9yuU+qnBKYZhQHiFDEwAbzNWmBL5f1PcQ2XrBY7GXaSX7mlJ/w==|tkp:Bk9SR_SWvdPnYw

I will likely upgrade my 5700x to a 5800x3d, but my one fear is it will have issues with the 4X8 I'm running now (same timings as yours). Not because it was difficult to get working, it was plug & play. It just seams that 4 sticks can stress the memory controller a bit more & some CPU's will make it work, apparently some won't.

Gotcha, alot of good info thank you! My 4x16 sticks are working fine and are stable currently. Running at the full 3600
