Recommendations on what ddr4 mobo and cpu and ram i should get!?

I made the mistake of getting 8gb ddr3 ram after i got my gtx 1050ti

i was looking for a cpu and i thought of getting an fx-6300 since i don't feel like getting a ddr4 system. I figured that an fx-6300 is not that much more powerful than my current cpu (i3-2120)

Everyone is telling me to get an i3-6100 and i thought it was a good idea. If i didn't spend my money on that memory i would've saved $50

Can someone recommend Motherboards, Cpu, and memory (ddr4) under $240. Please choose from pc part picker.

Before I get slaughtered for the Pentium--Kaby lake Pentiums are now HT enabled. You give up 400Mhz of speed for $50. Depends whether that's worth it to you or not. Can easily swap that G4560 for a 7100/6100.

You can upgrade to an i5 for a little over $10 more than what your budget dictates.

i don't know if i will get a $50 refund. The ram i got was $50. I would probably get $40 because it's not damaged.

Have you already used the RAM? If not, then you should just be able to send it back under the "Yeah I ordered the wrong part" section.

I'd rather spend the money on a nicer CPU/more RAM than on a nicer board. The nicer motherboard will allow you to have more quality of life things like... M.2 SSDs, USB 3.1 support, higher range of DDR4, etc etc. There's no performance difference for your PC in a better motherboard with a CPU that isn't easily overclockable.

& while the B150 will work, you can use a B250 with it as well (which I would recommend for Kaby Lake, I put the wrong board in there)

Why do you want a nicer motherboard before you want a nicer CPU/more RAM?

The only thing that sucks about that motherboard is it limits the ram speed...

I heard the motherboard is really old, i at least want one that doesn't limit any specifications on my pc. I would be ok with one that is 1-4 years old. It's not even for gaming. I'm not really good at motherboard specifications. I just feel like this motherboard is a bit sketchy for $70.

The b150 was older, I accidentally put the wrong one in 😛 that being said though, the b150 chipset is only as old as Skylake, which is a year and a half old.

And yes, it limits your RAM speed, but that won't end up mattering where you're on a budget. Nice high speed RAM can easily take up 50% of that chunk in your budget. When you have ~250 to spend, spending 50% of that on RAM would be ridiculous.

Yes, each of those CPUs is compatible with the b250 board. They are also compatible with the b150 board, but the b150 would need to be flashed to the most recent BIOS assuming it doesn't ship with the most recent.

If you want to push up to your budget limit, you can swap the Pentium for the i3 7100, but I would suggest seeing if you can either return or resell the RAM that you bought by accident, and seeing if you can get any money for anything that currently is in your system and possibly using that towards the upgrade. Going from Sandy Bridge to Kaby lake you are going to see some improvements, but an extra $50 pushes you up to an i5, which you would end up seeing massive improvements in.

The next upgrade is right after my birthday. I will have more money to spend, at that time i will get an i5-7500 because i saw the comparison and the i5-7500 totally dominates the i3-6100
