I was planning on getting a 512GB SSD with a 2 TB SSHD firecuda after hearing that filling my 1TB SSD with stuff would slow it down.

Thing is, how can I make the SSD specifically only be used for booting the OS and programs, and then store software on the firecuda (software such as steam and including games within it). Would I have to put the games on the SSD? Would there be a performance difference? Would you also recommend me going back to the 1TB SSD?

You can use the SSD as a system drive (OS) and when you install programs you can choose where they are installed. You should create a file on the firecuda where you will install programs to.

There may be some programs you might want to install on your SSD, like your browser, and perhaps select games that benefit from running off an SSD (any program that does a lot of loading from a drive will benefit).

Steam lets you create game libraries on drives that are not the installation drive for steam. Click the steam tab in the steam program, go to settings, then downloads, then near the top you should see a button called STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS. Click that and you should see an option to create a new one.
