Could you recommend some good motherboard companies? Note: I don't like
Asus. 3 out of 4 of them were problematic. Those three out of four of them
had problems with the mouse and keyboards. The keyboard and mouse will both
fail at the same time suddenly, but the rest of the computer still responds.
Asus's PS/2 ports need some serious work. I've had other problems with them
also. One that had this problem (the worst too) was an A7V333, the other
two were A7V8X-X motherboards.

What Processor do you want to use, Intel or AMD?
Do you want/need 64bit capability now?
What's your budget?
What will it be used for, game playing or digital photo/video etc?
Do you want to overclock your system?

AMD
64 bit isn't needed yet
$700 for the entire system
Games and photos. Music too
I would like to have the ability to overclock if need be

In that case, I suggest you have a look at the following websites and
read the reviews on various Socket A mainboards. Note, this isn't an
exclusive list and you may find other Socket A reviews by searching Google.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/display/kt400a-roundup.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030908/index.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030721/index.html
http://www.nforcershq.com/modules.php?name=nForce_Products

I can't make any recommendations on Socket A as I have limited
experience with Socket A myself having decided to go down the 64bit
route very recently.

A board based on the nForce2 chipset seems to be the best bet for an
in-expensive system that, depending on the mobo, could contain Dual
Channel RAM capability, SATA & ATA-133, 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound, USB
2.0 and Firewire.

Looking at www.nForcesHQ.com the Abit NF7 seems to rated very highly and
if SATA is a requirement then the NF7-S would be worth a look.

Hope this helps!
