recommended graphics card for current and future games at ultra on 1080p

i was thinking of getting the rx 480 8gb but the price is way high

Whats your budget? If the price of a RX 480 8GB is too high, look for GTX 1060 6GB or 3GB, and RX 480 4GBs and RX 470s.

If you really need to cut costs, a GTX 1050 Ti is probably the lowest for medium-high 1080p.

the gtx 1050ti you said medium to high on 1080p im aiming for ultra and will any of the cards you mentioned last long and be able to mantain a solid 60+fps for currrent and future games

mafia 3 requires 4gb of vram will the gtx 1060 3gb cause any problems

3GB of VRAM should be plenty for 1080p.

However, I must give you a warning about Mafia III. It is really poorly optimized and doesn't run well at all. Don't expect anywhere near 60 FPS.
