Hello!
I am building my first computer, and I've done all the research to get on the right track (I hope). No, I am not jumping into this without any knowledge.

The CPU I've decided to go with is the Phenom II X4 965 Black AM3 3.4Ghz 512KB 45NM 125W 4000MHZ, for $119.99, I think it's a modestly priced CPU for what it does. I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the direction of a good motherboard to accompany this CPU at a fair price. I'm hoping for around $100. If less, better. I don't need a mobo with ton's of usb ports on it (like I've seen some with 12), or PCI slots, etc. I only plan to put one graphics card in this, with just a few sticks of RAM. I just want a mobo that performs well with this CPU.
Thanks

From 20+ years of building high end PCs, I do not recommend Asus mobos as they are RAM sensitive and less reliable than other mobos IME. I recommend Gigabyte mobos for performance and reliability.

I'd recommend a 900 series AM3+ socket mobo as it will run your X4 965 just fine and also the new FX series CPUs and possibly the Piledriver based CPUs coming in '12. The 970 series is the least expensive and should serve you well for basic PC use. The 990 series has more options for SLI/Crossfire, etc. should you need that feature.
