Hey all I'm in the process of building a new computer and was wondering which power supply is recommended, here is the build parts:

-Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369&cm_re=i7_4790k-_-19-117-369-_-Product
-Video card: MSI GTX 980 GAMING 4G GeForce GTX 980: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127834&cm_re=gtx_980_msi-_-14-127-834-_-Product
-Case: Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107&cm_re=rosewell_blackhawk-_-11-147-107-_-Product
-Motherboard: ASUS Z97-PRO LGA 1150: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132116&cm_re=asus_z97_pro-_-13-132-116-_-Product
-RAM: HyperX Fury Black Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) (buying 2 sets for a total of 32GB of RAM): http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104445&cm_re=HX316C10FBK2-_-20-104-445-_-Product
-SSD: SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series 256GB: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147360&cm_re=samsung_256gb_ssd_pro-_-20-147-360-_-Product
-HDD: Western Digital WD Green 2TB: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236404&cm_re=western_digital_green_2tb-_-22-236-404-_-Product

This is the final build, no additional parts will be added in the future. I was thinking for the PSU: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011

Is that overkill? There also seems to be different ratings, 80 Plus Platinum, 80 Plus Gold, 80 Plus Bronze, etc. Is that more about power efficiency, should I even care much for the rating? I'm looking to stick with Corsair. Thanks!

A Seasonic 620w, or XFX 650w should be enough honestly. 850w would be good if you ever decide to SLI the GTX980 though. 😉

PS: I know you said you want to stay with corsair, but Seasonic is at the top of the food chain, and they also manufacture ALL XFX power supplies.

850w is massive overkill, if you won't be adding another 980 later on. 550w is more than enough. the corsair hx is a great psu just way more than you need. bronze/silver.... means very little as well. if you use the psu 24/7 for a number of years straight, then you might save enough electricity to pay for the extra cost of the psu. it's not really worth the cost.

this antec is a good price and a quality unit that will run the system easily. the lower cost corsair's are not as good so i am avoiding the cx/cxm series. this one is full modular for nice cable management as well. much cheaper than the corsair unit.

The sweet spot for 80+ power supplies is at about 50% of their power rating. The most draw I can imagine with this setup is about 400w, add in overclocking you would add in more. There is a very good table showing the required efficiency ratings for each 80+ certification levels on wiki.

The closer you come to the maximum draw of the PS, the harder the cooling system of the PS would have to work, many PS's even turn of the fan when the power draw is below a certain level. The Corsair turns it's fan off when it's cool enough. With the 850 there is more of a chance that the fan will be off entirely during non-gaming/video usage.

So while 850w is much more than you need, it's the wattage I would select, but there are other factors need to be considered. Personally, I love a full modular PS in addition to a high 80+ rating and intelligent fan control.

Thanks everyone for the help, after a lot of research, the part recommended by laviniuc the 110-B2-0750-VR seems like the best bang for buck for my build since I'll only be using one graphic card.
