Hi all,

I'm about to upgrade my old nVidia Geforce GTX 1650 graphics card with Geforce RTX 3050.
Currently I'm using Antec VP500W, but I'm not sure if this PSU is capable to power the system with no issues.

PC specs:
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5500
GPU nVidia RTX 3050 8Gb GDDR6
RAM 2 x 16Gb DDR4
SSD 1 x M2 SATA 512Gb + 1 x SATA 500Gb
HDD 1 x 5Tb SATA 7200rpm + 1 x 4Tb SATA 7200rpm
USB 5 x 2.0 + 3.0 USB devices
Fans 5 x 14cm case fans
PSU Antec VP500P Plus 500W

I've also checked several online PSU calculators with varying recommendation results:
- https://pc-builds.com : 314W
- https://pcpartpicker.com: 369W
- https://outervision.com: 351W
- https://www.enermax.com: 308W
- https://www.whatpsu.com: 450W (minimum)

What confuses me, was when I bought the new RTX 3050, it recommended a minimum 550W PSU instead, with no explanation how they came with that number.

I'm currently in tight budget, so I hope I won't have to buy a new 550W PSU if I don't really need it.
The PC is used for 3D and Unreal game engines, but won't be overclocked at all, since I really want to keep using this PC as long as possible. without further upgrade costs.

Your advice is very much appreciated, thank you in advance.

Solution
Just in case I get the budget for a new PSU to replace this not-so-good Antec VP500P Plus, will a 500W PSU be enough for RTX 3050 with the above PC specs?

Your advice is much appreciated, thanks again.
Currently I'm using Antec VP500W
How old is the PSU in your build?

bought the new RTX 3050
Do you have a link to the GPU that you purchased?
The Antec VP500P Plus PSU is between 3-4 years old, has been working well with those above specs, especially with GTX 750 and GTX 1650 cards.

The RTX 3050:

but I got the "no OC" version.

Depends on what's available in your country. Can you provide a link to a popular webshop for PSUs in your country?

As mentioned above, I'm currently in a tight budget and will have to wait for the budget fo a new PSU, if I really have to replace it;

Current PSU, although it's not a top tier, it has been working well with GTX 750 and GTX 1650 cards without any issue. I don't quite understand PSUs, could you please tell me what would happen to my PC (and the new RTX 3050) if I keep using current Antec VP500P Plus PSU? Will it damage them?
