Recommended PSU watt for computer build

I am currently building a computer and I had a reliable friend look over my list. He said everything was okay except I should go for a higher PSU watt. I was running with a 600w EVGA PSU. My build consists of a i5-4690K, EVGA GeForce GTX 970, and 8gb of ram (idk if anything else matters much). Will a 600w PSU be suitable for this? Because I am right at my budget limit and I do not know if I can go much higher. I am also open for recommendations. Thank you.

Perfectly fine. Evga psu's are good.

Most manufacturers exaggerate wattage requirements because of the utter shit that is out there.

Most budget psu manufacturers LIE about wattage output of their units.
