Ahh that's another story. Nah this isn't possible in a practical sense. There are a few janky methods but nothing official.

You can either:
If it's a steam game -> stream it from your desktop to laptop > play the game on your desktop and record on your laptop
If it's anything else -> use a remote desktop program like teamviewer to remote into your desktop (which shows you what's on the screen of that computer) and records teamviewer on your laptop.

Again both janky and unprofessional, but gets the job done. To my knowledge there is no other way to use a laptop as an external recording rig. since it...
Recording on a laptop is not ideal since they're generally weaker, but try using OBS again and for the video settings set the encoder from H.264 to Nvenc or Nvenc (new). Your CPU I assume is too weak to handle encoding the data but NVenc will utilize your GPU to lift the load. It's a 1050Ti however which is pretty weak, so I wouldn't look forward to too much of a change but you never know, eh?

Also set the bitrate of your recording to about 8Mbps if you're going 1080p. It won't look blurry but it won't be the best quality.

Keep fiddling around with video settings until you find something that works with your setup.

The encoder block has nothing to do with the rest of the performance, the 1050ti can record in 4k/60 h.265 if you want to.It can't even hope to reach those levels in any game but it can record.
Using either nvenc or qsv(intel iGPU) with OBS will allow you to capture game footage on your drives.

I told him to try that already (not qsv though, he could try that out too), but he said he doesn't want to record on 1 machine.
