Recover data on Toschiba external drive

Hello,
I have a PC and a MAC. I had data on a Toshiba external hard drive which was formatted to be used on Windows- in a hurry I hooked it up on the mac until I noticed as it took to long to be recognized, it dawned on me what I had done and pulled the plug.
Is there anyway I can recover these files?
