Recover files from flash drive that says it needs to be formatted

I put my USB flash drive into my work computer as normal but then it told me to format it and all data would be lost. How do I recover these files without losing my data ?

try recuva it's free and does a good job usually. it has an option to recover from unformatted drives.

you may have closed it to run on other computers like a CD disk
