Recovered Laptop with broken screen

I used system recovery on a HP Envy m6 with a broken screen, little did I know this would disable the external monitor. I don't have the funds to replace the screen or to get a new laptop. I have tried to close the lid at startup, but it did not work. Is there anything else I can try?
