Was proofreading and editing someone's homework from a usb flash drive. Computer crashed and Word auto-recovery had a saved copy. After finishing from that recovery file, saved the document back on the flash drive which then died after removal and transport home. Is there a way to recover the document, either a temp file or that auto-recovery copy from the C: drive on the computer I was working on? It's no longer in Word and the info button to be able to manage unsaved copies is non-clickable.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I had saved it on the usb flash drive. I've already tried the steps from that link with no luck. I've tried Recuva and Orion File Recovery with no luck hoping to find the temp files that would have been permanently deleted from the master file table.

I assume you tried Recuva on the USB stick as well? Can't think of anything else to try unfortunately.

I would if I could but in the 20 minutes it was out of my hands (in the pocket of another) it failed. It shows in Windows explorer as Removable Disk (F: ) but when clicked on, a pop up appears "Please insert a disc into Removable Disk (F: )". Which from everything I could find indicates it's broken.

Broken yes - but Recuva may still be able to recover some items.

No, Recuva is unable to open drive. Wants a disc inserted as if it were an optical drive. I think I'm out of options and just giving up short of seeing if the solder is damaged and needs repairing. Thanks for your attempting to help, much appreciated.
