Hello good people,

In an effort to get pci-passthrough to work on a server with a SuperMicro X9DAL-i motherboard, I updated the BIOS.

The update completed successfully, however now the system does not appear to boot. After powering on, it seems to check devices, beep, then do nothing else. The screen does not turn on.

The steps that I have taken so far:

Removed video card => Computer made 5 beeps after booting, then nothing

Attempted recovery by copying the X9DAL4.102 file to a usb drive and restarting the machine with Ctrl + Home depressed per SuperMicro BIOS Recovery Steps => The system does not ever seem to start copying a file

Tried recover with CD instead of USB => Same results as above

I believe the issue was caused when I updated the BIOS. In FreeDOS, I ran the command "AMI.BAT X9DAL4.102" and I believe I should have ran "AMI.BAT BIOSname.###", but I'm still not sure if that is a placeholder or not.

Because the system does appear to do a few things, like beep whenever there is no video card and at least recognize the USB and CD drive, I believe the Boot Sector Block is okay and that the issue is with the Main Bios Block.

What do you think?
