hi,
I had 2 IDE cable HDD's ( 40 GB master, 250GB slave) in my desktop, Now i lost 40 GB Hard disk which had OS. If i want to use my other 250 GB HD i have to format it but i want to recover data in it before i do format.
somebody plz help in recovering data.

thanks in advance

try booting off a hirem boot cd and run a recovery program from the cd. if the drive still working and seen you may be able to recover the data. before you do run anything use the min xp boot on the hirem cd and see if windows xp will see the old data drive.

Yes! You are right! You should restore your data before the formatting in case of data loss. To recover your lost data, you could try a hard drive recovery freeware that can do its utmost to restore your data in the same way as it retrieves all the data back of my brother from a logically damaged drive.
PS: You should not put any new file on this drive till you have retrieved all your data back.
You also should learn a lesson to back up your data regularly.
Good luck!
