I want to recover data from an old Internal Harddrive, but the old drive was running on an older OS (W7 or Vista, don't remember) where as my new machine runs W10

What are the risks, if any, of plugging in/recovering data from an Internal Harddrive that still has an OS stored within?

Thanks

Solution
risks, virus risks if infected. scan it first to be sure.
beyond that no real risk.
I routinely use a bootable USB drive with linux to recover data from windows drives all the time.
you might need to import the foreign drive in disk management if it shows up as a foreign disk

If that older HDD has an "active" Windows on it, Aunt's computer could get confused if there is a reboot or a restart with that old HDD attached -- otherwise, there should be no trouble getting the data from that old HDD at all! :)
