recovering formatted D: drive

I just accidentally reformatted the D: drive on my girlfriends (Windows 7) laptop thinking it was the DVD E: drive.
I don't know what I have lost. What should I do? Is there any way to go back, like an "undo"? Recommend any software?
Any help appreciated froths noob.

Well you cannot format the DVD drive unless you have a DVD inserted which can be formatted. Does the laptop operate normally?

Unless the data on the drive is not overwritten, you should be able to recover it.
