Recovering Lost DRAM Size error on X58A-UD3R. Please help.

I have tried just about everything I can think of myself and wanted to turn to the experts before I RMA the MOBO. I have a X58A-UD3R board, Intel i& 950 and 12 GB of OCZ Gold 6GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory (Model: OCZ3G1600LV6GK). For some reason in the BIOS it is only showing 8 GB of RAM installed. It appears slot 5 and 6 (Channel C) are not enabled which I can see in M.I.T. Slots 1-4 show 2048 and slots 5 and 6 shows " - " where it says 'Enabled Slot (MB). It does however show the full 12 GB DRAM installed, but just not slot 5 and 6 enabled. I have not overclocked anything as this is a work PC. There are no warning beeps. The system will boot and will POST to hit "Recovering Lost DRAM Size" error and then reboot 3 times in same manner. On the 4th boot the PC will load windows 7 normally with no issues. I have flashed the BIOS to latest FC version. I read that many people have found bent CPU socket pins but I have checked and all is fine there. I even reset the CPU and heatsink just to be sure with a new application of Artic Silver.

Has anyone been able to fix this issue or do I need to just RMA the board?

Can you snap a pic & post it? I looked at both the rev1 & rev2 manuals, and can't find the "slot enable" item - must be an addition in a new BIOS.

Often, with XMP enabled to get timings above 1333, some hand tweaking must be done to get two DIMMs per channel to work - the XMP parameters are set up, generally, for a single DIMM per channel...

Here are a few images. I only have 6 GB installed at moment, but only 4 GB is being recognized. Slot 5 is being ignored. Very weird.

I have the Rev 2 board and it is under M.I.T. Current Status. I have moved working memory modules with no luck for DIMM 5 or 6. It shows 2048 in Slot 5 but will not enable it.

I did not see the XMP option in my BIOS. This memory is tested for 1600 so I am not sure why XMP is not being shown. Is there somewhere else I can find it.

Suspicious looking SPD from CPU-Z; I've never seen a stick with four profiles, which may or not be an actual issue, but I am concerned as at the right column, it should show an XMP entry or two. D/L & run SPD tool; click File->Read, and pick a module; click File->Save, and email the file to me - I'll take a look at the full parameter set. Be careful to not use File->Write - it can change a parameter set and make the module unbootable!

Might want to continue this at http://www.bilbat.co.cc/smf/index.php!

I just emailed you the file. :)

Then that leaves 2 items as stated, the other voltage changes are rare issues.

To rule-out the sticks run Memtest ; create a bootable CD/DVD use ISO/zip file - http://www.memtest.org/ run 2 passes try with all 6 sticks after DRAM Voltage is set to spec.

Noticed this; one of the misc voltages was QPI:

Set Performance Enhance to { Standard }
Adjust System Memory Frequency to { 1600 Mhz } by moving the System Memory Multiplier
Set DRAM Timing Selectable to { Expert }
Set DRAM Timings to 8-8-8-24 (CL-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
Set tRFC to { 88 }
Set Command Rate ( CMD ) to { 2 }
Set QPI/Vtt Voltage from { 1.2 to 1.35 volts } [ the lowest stable level is desired ]
Set DRAM Voltage to { 1.65 volts }

I ALSO Recommend that you ALWAYS attach Grounding straps between yourself, the case, and a solid ground whenever your machine is open.

I tried the settings with no lock enabling slots 5 and 6. :(
