Recovering Windows product key from a computer that has been reset

Is there a way to recover the windows product key if the computer that had the installation of windows has been completely reset? The hard drive does not have the OS installed and it is like a new drive. I had note with the product key since I was going to reinstall windows on the computer in question but one way or another the picture has been lost/thrown away.

if windows 10 was ever activated on that computer you should be able to automagically activate it again, install it and give it a try.

if you got the free upgrade then it will automatically activate once you connect back up to the internet after the install. if it does not it has a troubleshooter that will help

if you bought it and had to use a key then any keyfinders should be able to retrieve it

also if this is a current laptop or brand name computer the licence info will be stored in the BIOS so you wouldn't have to enter a key
