Recovery cd's for easynote LJ61 VISTA

Hello,
I've recently aquired a laptop from a friend and when I got it all that came up was bsod (blue screen of death) so I used system restore to bring it back to factory settings and it do so with no problem. The very next day I turned on the laptop it couldn't find the hd. I downloaded a diagnostic disk for a hitachi hd and it seen it and said "excessive force" and drive is damaged. now I've lost everything including the option to restore to factory settings is there anyone out there with a recovery cd for easynote LJ61 that would help me to restore back to factory settings. thanks

Well, you will need a different hard drive as the one that you have is apparantly shot.

2.Power on your computer. When the Packard Bell logo is displayed, press and hold the ALT key while pressing repeatedly the F10 key. Release the keys when a message displays that Windows is loading files.
3.After the system recovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.

What about regenerator softwares for weeding out bad sectors and reallocating the bad sectors so that they are not in use. If not I've got another hard drive that will fit.

You could use Ghost or another software program to copy that partition to your new hard drive. and then use that procedure.

You could try and delete the C:\ partition (but not any other partition, which should be the recovery partition) and then do the factory restore on that drive. However, if Toshiba says its bad, it is bad.

are you saying that I should try this with the existing hd that I'm having trouble with? If that works it would be great!!!! Do you think that the new hd with the recovery cd's would lose the function key capability or would the recovery cd reallocate that macro to its proper function key access?

The Function keys would still work if you are able to restore the factory image from the recovery partition.

What I would do is try and restore the factory image by using the ALT key and F10 as mentioned previously.

If you are successful in getting the factory image on your existing hard drive, Then, there should be a program on the factory image that lets you create Recovery DVD/CD(s). That is what you should do.
