So I am about to install an SSD and format my workplace's computer. After opening the case to check the parts before I proceed, I noticed that there is an extra HDD that doesnt show anywhere on the computer except BIOS.
After some googling I found out that this drive is used as a "Recovery Partition". However I have no idea why the guy that built and set up the pc used an extra 500GB drive (exact same drive as the main drive) for a recovery partition.

Why could the guy have installed it and most importantly:
Are there any things I should take care of before I format these drives and clean install Windows in the new SSD?

Typically the recovery partition would have been on the primary hard drive, but since it's on another drive it was probably because 1. he didn't want anyone accidentally deleting the recovery partition and 2. probably had alot of 500 gb drives sitting around.

Nothing important to keep.

Well, maybe I was wrong. I just noticed recovery partition is 450MB, not 450GB.
So the second 500GB disc isn't shown in disk Management.
I'm kind of confused on what this disc is used for and if I should do something about it before formating.

It is not shown as a volume, but it sure should be visible as a disk once you scroll down a bit. You will probably have to initialize it first, and only then will you get the chance to assign a drive letter, and format it.

If it is not visible even after you scroll down, it is possible that:

1) it is not connected at all
2) it is not being recognized by mobo BIOS or simply something is misconfigured in BIOS
3) it is dead

But it is most likely visible.

Well, after some more searching I found out that the two discs work as mirrors (RAID 1), so consider this thread out of topic.
Thanks for your time and answers though!
