Recycling Old Graphics Cards

Hello, I just bought a 1080ti and I still have my old 660ti and I was wondering if I can still put the 660ti in the computer and get any sort of benefit from it rather than just letting it go to waste. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

Solution

In nvidia control panel you can select what GPU you want to use for Physx processing.

Basically, in games that use Nvidia Physx, you should see a boost as it will be mean the main GPU would have less work to do.

Its not usually a huge benefit to be honest, but as you have the card spare, try it out.

Dedicated Physx cards are what I've been seeing mostly as I searched around other forums and threads. I was curios as to how this works and what kind of benefit it actually would provide.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. I have already have an 850W power supply in my computer too so I should have plenty of power to spare, I'll try it out.

When you're running a 1080ti there is just no point keeping that 660ti at all - not even as a physx card.
The 1080i can handle physx (in the few games its supported)/on top of its normal load without breaking a sweat .

You'll just be running hotter case temps & stifling your 1080ti airflow for absolutely no gain whatsoever.

Yeah I dont expect much difference in performance, but am interested to know - update the thread with your findings if you dont mind.
