When I pull up task manager, then click on the performance tab in Windows XP, sometimes the lower bars on the CPU Usage Graph turn to red for just a second or so. The bars above are green. Does this mean anything?
Red is used by Task Manager to show the amount of CPU that is spent executing kernel code (ring 0). Green is used to show the amount of time spent executing user code (ring 3).
A healthy system showing both will show the green on top of the red.
You can turn off showing the kernel time by going to the Performance tab and, under the view menu, uncheck "show kernel times".
If once you've done that it is still red, you have a situation I have not run into before.

Just as a reminder Windows XP will no longer be supported by Micro$oft after April 8th, 2014. You really should think about upgrading.
Thanks for the quick reply. I unchecked show kernal times and it no longer shows any red bars in the graph. I always get a little nervous when I see red anything.
As for Windows XP, I am aware that it will no longer be supported after April 8. That computer is used for an older version of Pro Tools (Music Recording Software) and is not connected to the internet.
