Hello everyone I hope you can help as I am at a loss.

I helped my brother build a computer and it worked for about a month and then one day there was no video output.
The LED indicators on the motherboard normally turn on while the system is booting but the CPU LED is on when trying to boot the system.
The fans would spin but the RBG is not on and flashes on when the power supply switch gets turned on.

The system:
  • CPU: i5-12600KF
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4
  • GPU: Evga RTX 3060 12GB
  • RAM: 2 x 8GB DDR4 3200 CL16
  • Storage: Kinston 1TB M.2 SSD
  • Power Supply: Cooler Master 550W
What I have tried:
  • One RAM stick at a time and trying in all four RAM slots (Did this with both 8GB sticks)
  • Reseated the CPU and GPU
  • Resated the power cables
  • Tried a less power hungry GPU (GTX 950 2GB)
  • Updated the BIOS to the latest version
I hope you can help.
Thank you!

A red light on your motherboard means internal hardware is either plugged-in incorrectly or not working. Internal hardware examples include the CPU, RAM, or a graphics card. Sometimes a dead CMOS battery may be the culprit. Boot errors on the hard drive where the primary OS is installed may also cause a red light.

More Info .

Thank you for your reply. I will try changing the CMOS battery and see if that helps.

The problem was resolved sorry I forgot to update.

The CPU was dead at no fault of our own, so the shop sent it back to intel and we got a new CPU

Hope this helps.
