Red CPU_LED and '00' Q-CODE on ASUS X99 - DELUXE

Hey guys,

I will try to make it as clear as possilbe.

PROBLEM: After reassembling all of the components into the new PC Case (NZXT H440) I get Red CPU_LED and '00' Q-CODE. No signal gets through graphics card, no beeps, no nothing.

SPECS:
CPU: INTEL I7-5960X 3.00GHZ LGA2011.V3
RAM: 32GB GSKILL DDR4 2666 Mhz
GPU: GeForce GTX980 4GB
MB: ASUS X99-DELUXE
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 256 GB
HDD: SEAGATE 3TB

What I tried:

  • - First off, I thought that I might have not connect 8-PIN CPU correctly, exchanged the cable, made sure 24-PIN sits correctly. No effect.

    - Then I though I might have placed the CPU the wrong way around in the socket. Checked everything. It was fine.

    - I also thought that it might be the new PC Case. Maybe some screws weren't isolated, so I took mobo out and disconnected GPU and left only one 8GB piece of RAM in the socket. Then I connected 8PIN and 24PIN, turned the power on and still nothing. Only CPU_LED lights up.

    - I updated BIOS using ASUS Bios Flashback feature, it was flashed successfully, but without any effect on the problem.

    - '00' Q-CODE means basically, that the screen or MoBo is not currently used. So it doesn't help at all.

    - Tried reseting CMOS. Didn't help.

    - What's interesting is that, when I took the CPU out and try to boot up, the CPU_LED still lights up, which to me means that there may be something wrong with MOBO. When I disconnect 8PIN CPU power cord LED obviuosly doesn't light up, as I think it just don't have power.

At this point I think I tried everything and I ask you for help. I will appreciete it so much!

I still have warranty on all these products, but I still wouldn't know which one to return - MOBO or CPU?

Or maybe there is a way to get this to work?

Hi

Problem could also be the PSU
do you have a known good working spare PSU?

If a modular PSU have the cables been connected correctly at PSU end?

I am supprised you are able to flash the bios or know that it suceeded without any display

Problem more likely to be motherboard than CPU

A lower power PSU may work if the graphics card not plugged in

a few more thoughts
check cmos clear jumper is in correct location (read the user guide/manual)
check cpu and RAM is on supported list at Asus web site

This may be a stupid/simple question to ask, but did you ground yourself? Because about a month ago I was messing with system to switch my PSU, but kinda forgot/lost myself to ground myself and so I kinda shocked my board. So I went back to the place it was built and fixed it. I remember my builder was talking something about draining the capacitors on the mobo by plugging in their 4 pin power connector next to the 8 pin CPU power connector then unplug it and disable it after it was done. That connector is unnecessary unless you need more voltage for OC, but it may be the cause. If everything is the same parts from your old case, this might be your cause. I'm not saying it IS, but it's just a possibility. So that was my experience with the x99 boards, I did not know there was an extra 4 pin power connector to begin with, so I had to get a new PSU. I have no clue how he drained them though, so I can't help you with that part, maybe Google it something if this is your case. I hope this helps at least a little :)

Thanks for the input Mike! I have a modular PSU and I triple checked if cables were going in/out the right way. I will borrow a PSU from my friend and test it out with CPU and MOBO only.

Regarding the CPU and RAM, these parts were working together in excatly same configuration two days ago. The only thing that changed is the PC case. Thanks a lot again.

Hey, thanks a lot! Actually I didn't ground myself. The whole disassembling was rushed and I forgot about. Stupid me. I will try to research the draining capacitors trick! Will get back to you with the result. Thanks!

Hey alexoiu! Thanks for feedback. Yeah I checked the pins and everything seems to be perfect, No bendings, everything looks even. Also I am using Corsair H110 watercooling system and yes, the pump starts with the motherboard and it acts properly.

Later today I will try to fix the issue with the solutions suggested in the previous replies.

If you guys have any other ideas, let me know!

Am having similar issue with my Asus x99-A Board with Intel 5820k Cpu. I have tried the above solution but i noticed that my cpu was still cold in temperature even if i boot it up. There is no power running through the cpu with the same 00 code error . Am thinking my Board is dead. :pfff:

Check the temperature of the Cpu if its Hot or Cold?

Sorry for reviving this, but i have the exact same problem.
I get error 00 for less than one second, then the mobo turns itself off.
Tried everything, even RMA'd one of the x99 deluxes and the replacement shows the same error.
Im using a 5960x, brand new. PSU is a corsair axi1500.
Im assembling everything outside the case, on a wood table, and using an ati 5450 just to get video signal, but nothing.

Hi guys.

Just did a build with the x99-Deluxe mobo and i7-5820 and I'm getting the same issue. q-code stays 00 even after BIOS flashback. Tried it also with two different CPU's thinking it might be a processor issue. Still no POST, code stays 00.

Faulty mobo?

Hey, sorry to tell you this, but its very likely that your cpus and motherboard are dead.
The x99 deluxe i got had a shortcircuit that affected the cpu socket in some way (im not an expert). I tried both 5960x on 4 different boards and nothing. Both dead after putting em on that shitty x99 deluxe.
And in my case is even worse, because i bought the x99 deluxe when i was on us on holidays for a couple of days, on ebay.com . the thing is that shipping it from Argentina to usa coata me around 300 usd. So now i have a 450 usd brick.
The bright aide is: intel warranty service is awesome, they will replace your cpu in a maatter of days, they have the best warranty service by far. They are responsive, quick, proffessionals. Everything you'd expext from a serious company. Asus is garbage, im not buying anything from there anymore. They never rwplied my emails.

Edit: just to make aure, the 00 led is shown for like quarter of second and then everything shuts off right? Thats exactly the behavior my mobo presented, and ended up killing two 5960x.

Keep us updated regarding this, im already linking to intel, posts of people having lot of majpra problems with 5th generation i7s and crApsus deluxe x99. I hope they remove their locense to make intel moboa or something. This is a spit in the face to the costumer, to intel, because it makes em look like assholes, to everyone.
If you want ro go x99 eifht now, just go get a gifabyte mobo, forget asus
Its overpriced crap. Like Apple, but for motherboards.

For me the let stays on with the 00 until I switch the computer off. Nothing switches off on its own.

And even as the ASUS support wasn't able to give me any useful information, they were the ones who immediately proposed RMA service. So I'm sending mine in and hopefully will get a replacement soon. I live in New York, so their service seems to be more prompt.

When it comes to Asus vs Gigabyte (or PC vs Apple for that matter) imho it's just a personal preference.

Oh ok, well, the fact that it doeant turn itself off might be an indication that the mobo has no shortcircuit like mine did. You are lucky haha.
Maybe your cpus are not dead after all, since theres no shortcircuit.
And about the apple thing, i meant that asus throw a lot of useless stuff to their mobo just to look cooler, but none of those show any real performance gain in the real world. The gigabyte optimozation is far better than the asus' 5 steps optimization... And that "oc socket" i think it might be the reason of so many cpus not being recognized or direcrly killed by this mobo (aka mofo).
And dont get me wrong i do have an x99 deluxe, x99a and rampage v extreme, im talking because ive used their products.

Has anyone found an answer to this yet? I'm going through the same thing. I get the 00 code on my Asus x99-A with 5820. The cpu and graphics card light up but no fans except for the graphics card.

Don't know if this helps you. But:
For me it was the PSU. There are two PSU connections to the mobo – one to power the mobo, and the second, smaller one, bringing power to the cpu. On my build the one close to the cpu was not properly connected and the mobo didn't have enough power to turn on (and to show any messages). So – check that both PSU cables to the mobo are properly connected.

Hey I also have the same problem ive already RMA my cpu nothing got a new PSU nothing ram is good lights up mobo lights up GPU spins and lights up although water cooler doesnt turn on nor spin but i think even without it would still be able to boot right? only for a short time HELP ME PLEASE IVE BEEN WITHOUT A PC FOR 2 MONTHS
