I am not sure just where this post belongs, but sense the problem shows up on the case,,,,
At the on button, reset button, there is a green light, and a red light.
This is a older home built PC, with the case from comp USA, running a Pll.
I have never seen a case where the red light stays on, untill now!
The red light stays on, and I do not think it means its christmas.
So, any help in just why the light is on??

thanks in advance, I appreciate it
B

peace be with you

Generally the red light is the hard drive light. I take this happened recently? This is the same case you have always had, or is it a new one?

Is everything working normally? All your drives and such?

Its not my box, I am fixing it for my "boss". Figures, huh?
New info, The floppy dr is not working. I put a new one in and still have a problem, which may be causing the red light? The new one didn't work. Just the same problem, which is, the light stays on, and if I put a disk in, it just spins. When I try to access the floppy dr. I get A: is not accessible, the device is not ready, RETRY CANCEL.
I remoived it from device manager in the hopes that reinstalling the drivers may help, that would be a NO. There is no warning signs in device manager either. Tried to get into it from a DOS prompt, even though I knew it was a futile effort.
It has w98 on it. A Pll 400. Everything else seems to be working just fine. The CD is OK and the HD is ok.
Any ideas?
And thanks again for the help

peace be with you

Hey, can I ask you another quick question?
I mentioned removing the disk dr. from device manager. As I have done this many times I knew it was ok. But what about doing the same thing with the disk controller? Will 98 reinstall the drivers for a disk dr. controller?
thanks

peace be with you

Oh, almost forgot, some cases actually have red power light, that is on whenever the PC is on, I'm guessing that is probably not it either.

Are you sure the floppy drive isn't plugged in backwards, floppy cables seem to be random, some of my drives they are plugged in one way, others I have to break the tab off of the board so I can flip the cable over. Is the floppy drive light (green light) always on?

The disk controller is what actually controls the floppy drive, so re-installing those drivers may help you more, than uninstalling the floppy drivers themselves.

Sometimes it seems that there is no rhyme or reason to computer problems.

QUOTE:
"Are you sure the floppy drive isn't plugged in backwards"
Said by a great man.
Well, 1st, its working. Second, I was told that no one was in the box. SO, a ribbon can not flipo itself. Can it? Hmmmm? Lord knows, I should know better then this! When I opened it, I found a fan wire pulled apart, so I called him and asked again if anyone was in the box. NOPE, no-ser-re.
I should have double checked, because I think it was, of course I have no way to prove it, sense I didn't look.
I removed the floppy dr. and the floppy controller in device manager and put in new floppy drive. Wa-La, it worked. (bet the old one still works)
But I think you hit it on the head when you asked if the green light was staying on.
Another PC mystery,
Now if I can only figure out where notepad went on
my PC,,,, :)
Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

peace be with you
