Red screen/blue screen during game launch/play

My PC freezes with a 100% red screen during gameplay or will give me a blue screen with the error "Stop Code: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR"

Typically speaking - I can start up my computer, browse the web, stream, be on discord, with no problems.

Errors only start to occur once a game is launched. And even then, sometimes I am able to play for hours before it gives me problems. However, once it begins to give me problems it's kind of an endless cycle.

My PC has ran fine for 6 years (via normal automatic updates) - didn't update anything or download any new drivers recently other than deleting and reinstalling.

Just randomly has been happening since last week.

GPU - r9 290x
CPU - i7-4770k 3.50GHz
RAM - 8 GB
OS - Windows 10 64
PSU - Silverstone 850W
MOBO - Asus z-87 Pro

Side facts - have tried deleting and reinstalling drivers - even with the CLEAN install
GPU/CPU are running at decent temperatures, even for a 290x
No problems with RAM being detected

Update: I am getting blue screens - same error very frequently now. Even while browsing the internet.

Any ideas?

Solution
"Stop Code: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" related to hardware, driver, system files problem.

But you just try to remvoe the r9 290x, using onboard iGPU to see what happens. If the pc works fine with onboard, then run system file check (SFC) How to https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/system-file-check-sfc-scan-and-repair-system-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

Also may check the 290x in other PC to see it works fine or not, in this way you may find out what causes the problem.
