Red vertical lines on one monitor (dual monitors used)

Hi there,

All of a sudden one of my screens has verticle red lines. When I first start up windows it's fine for a few minutes. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what may be the cause of the below and how I fix it? Further details below.

Redline_Screen.jpg

Model: ACER V246HL monitors (owned and used with my computer for a good few years). They have a DVI cable, I use a "DVI to HDMI" converter to plug it into my PC tower.

Problem: Red verticle lines on the one screen, sometimes take a few minutes to appear. Once there they don't seem to go away. Every now and again the screen will go black for a second and then the red lines will appear again

Occurrence: A few mins after start up, sometimes longer. The screen will all of a sudden go from being normal to this.

What I've tried:
-Switching screen off/on >> red lines still there
-Switching screen off, waiting for 5 minutes, then switch on again >> often red lines are gone
-Ensuring DVI cable is securely inserted >> red lines still there
-Tried to plug DVI cable into another socket in tower (graphics card can take 4 screens) >> red lines still there

Does anyone know what it could possibly be and how I could (hopefully) fix it?

Thanks
Michelle
