Hello everyone, recently I got a GTX 1070 reference edition paired with my i7-6700k, and i got a fractal define r5 case.
I have 2 fans intake in the front, one on the bottom of the case intake, a rear exhaust fan and an h100i as an exhaust at the top.
My temps on my GPU idle are decent, it sits around about 30-35c idle, but whenever I'm gaming lets say, battlefield 4 my GPU load averages from 90-100%, and my temps go up to anywhere from 75-82c.
Now I want to know why it's running so hot, and if anyone can help me bring down the temps under load.

Thank you.

When you run Battlefield if the fan doesn't already ramp up to 100% and sound like a fighter jet get Precision X16 or MSI Afterburner, don't play with the OC setting but at least set a more aggressive fan curve and see if that helps some.

if you really dont like seeing those temps the really only solution(without lowering performance) is either to make fans run at a higher% than whatever you have currently or return the blower designs which suck, most reference designs do and getting a non-reference card. but as people have said those temps are perfectly fine for a reference designs

My 1070 FE was always 80-82c I installed Precision X16 and set the fan curve to auto. I think at 70-80c the fan speed is 80%. Playing Overwatch my card never went over 60c. A huge 20 degree difference.

Hey All,

I have a 1070 as well and just turned off Overwatch about 10ish minutes ago and my GPU is sitting at 37C, but may continue to go down. My CPU package sits at 34C.

When gaming my GPU was at 69 and CPU package was 42. Do these seem safe?

My PC is under my desk in my game room and I know it could be in a better place but I'm dealing with the location I've been dealt.

My house is sitting at around 75F

Thanks!

What is Precision X16 a program?

Those temps are perfectly safe.

Do you notice a lot more noise now? They allow it to hit 82C at stock so it's quieter.

Perfectly fine temps.(High would be 80-83) The 69 GPU is average. Mine is normally 70 degrees and 70% fan speed..i hover around 70-75 with GPU overclocking. Your CPU looks good too. Curious what your fan speed curve is set to?

These are the normal temps of the founders edition card. Don't expect anything less than 80c .by the way if you want to over clock it you need to increase the max temp from 83 to 93. And your temps with over clock should be around 87c it wont go higher than that.

I don't know what my curve is set to. In order to get my readings I used CPUID HD Monitor. I tried Precision x16 but really had no idea what was going on. When I put the fan to auto is cranked the thing to 100% and I had no idea how to set it and just uninstalled it so it didn't mess with any default settings.

The summers in New England can be hot around these months, but when winter comes I'll be all set! I'll have to start a fire next to my CPU to keep it warm. :)

I forget the name of the case, but it's really large and I have plenty of room. I have a different fan in my PC not the stock fan that comes with the CPU.

Do I really need to over clock? Is buying something like that cooler a bit of a money sink if my temps are fine and I don't plan on over clocking?

This is an example of a reference/blower design http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487277&cm_re=GTX_1070-_-14-487-277-_-Product

There is also nothing wrong, at all, in any way shape or form, with 82C with a blower design card. Trying to lower it because you are not comfortable with the temp is silly. 82C is hot if you have one of open air designs that blows air back into the case, because it would mean something is not operating properly, not because the temp is hot.
