Reference GTX 760 (or custom R9 270X)

So, I'm having a hard time deciding which graphics card to buy.

I was looking at buying a Sapphire R9 270X Dual-X. Its quite cheap and offers a good overclocking headroom, low noise levels and a black PCB and cooler that will fit perfectly in my system.

But the Leadtek GTX 760 is around $30-$40 more. Its a reference design and cooler and likely don't have much overclocking potential. I could also put an after market Arctic Accelero on it, but will make the price difference even bigger, with no guarantee that it will help with overclocking.

Keep in mind that I'm not in the US, and prices are very different.

I'm not going for the 7870 because the price difference is small and I don't really care about the games offered.


Is the GTX 760 really worth the additional price, especially for a reference design? I think an overclocked 270X will offer better performance.

The performance on the 760 and Sapphire x270 is similar. The 760 does pull ahead in a few games though.

I did some more research and the review from Anandtech pretty much confirms what you said.

I don't think the GTX 760 is worth the additional cost anymore, especially when trading the nice Dual-X cooler for a reference one.

The 760 will beat the 270x at 1080p because it was built for 1080p gaming.
The 270X on the other hand will perform slightly better in higher resolutions.

idk why you would get the Leadtek 760 when you can get the MSI 760 for the same price with the following features
~Aftermarket Cooler (TF cooler)
~Overclocked
~Very quiet

Get the Sapphire 270x only if you plan on overclocking and playing on resolutions higher then 1080p otherwise the 760 is worth the extra $40

The 270X on the other hand will perform slightly better in higher resolutions.

The Leadtek GTX 760 with the reference cooler is around $30 more. Still affordable, but because both cards have a boost feature, the 270X might pull ahead and have a better overclocking potential.

By comparison, the Winfast GTX 760 Hurricane III is around $70 more than the 270X and the MSI GTX 760 is around $120 more.

Totally NOT worth the price compared to the very small performance gains when moving up to the 760.

Ah I see.. well in your case get the 270x woldn't be worth paying that much for the MSI 760
