Reformatted but still retained some files?

Hello guys, I just recently bought an Asus Z87-pro, new windows 7 OEM and haswell 4670k to replace my old P55 motherboard that fried.

Everything went smooth, I reformatted my 500gb hard drive and reinstalled windows and there is one thing that is puzzling me.

I redownloaded steam, reinstalled Skyrim, and I was able to jump right into my old game save (which I was assuming I had lost).

Does this mean I didn't reformat correctly? Is there a way to check? I don't want anything from my old OS to interfere with the new hardware.

When you saved your game on steam it was stored on the steam servers so would not be affected by a forma.

Steam stores game saves on the cloud (their own servers), so your format went fine, you're just enjoying one of the features of Steam!

Interesting! I had heard that Skyrim was one of the games that hadn't actually taken advantage of the Steam Cloud. Was this a recent thing?
