Hi all,
I am at a Wits end.
I bought a Corsair RM850X PSU for my new PC build. The Motherboard is the MSI MAG X570S Tomahawk MAX WIFI.
The issue is that the supplied CPU Power Cords only work on one the end that goes to the Motherboard. The other End does not match. The Motherboard socket to connect the power matches the PSU Socket BUT....Both ends of the supplied Power Cables only matches one end.
The 4-Pin connector matches the one on the MB and PSU as it can be separated. I'm beginning to think the 8-pin connector is not used at all.

I also bought a new PSU EVGA 850 G6 Supernova Gold 80+ and it has the same connectors...WTH???
I will add pics to show you the MB socket and the Power cable layout. I need help.

CPU Power Cable 8-pin side: View: https://imgur.com/HBoBtED

CPU Power Cable 2x4 other end: View: https://imgur.com/GH24UKg

PSU Side Power socket: View: https://imgur.com/hKxzmPt

The motherboard one is hard to see but the sockets match the 8-Pin Power Cable side. The PSU requires the SAME layout of the 8-pin. There is no cable where both ends are the same.

The 4-Pin slot has matching power cable. Is the MB 8-Pin socket faulty? Is it used at all?
I'm so lost.

It goes like so;

PSU side - 8-pin connector (need to connect two cables)
MoBo side - 2x 4-pin connector (to fill the 8-pin socket) + 1x 4-pin connector

Edit:
Pins line up perfectly.

Some image editing of your image;

(Red and blue colors, to trace pins/socket for 8-pin slot and green dotted line to trace pins/socket for 4-pin connector. + Look how the latch lines up.)

On the motherboard the 8-pin is required the 4-pin is optional. So for the 8 pin you just plug it the full 4+4 pin connector, for the 4-pin you only plug in half of the 4+4 connector. on the psu side you fully plug in both connections(the side that doesn't split in half).

The 1x8 will fit the CPU in the pic, but the PSU side needs the SAME. House,Square,Square,House
Square, House, House, Square
BUT...The 2x4 Side is House,House, House, Square
House, House, Square, House.
uuuugh

  1. Take the 2x 4-pin combo plug, orient it in a way, where the latch is top side. Plug it into 8-pin socket on the MoBo. It will fit.
  2. Take 2nd 2x 4-pin combo plug, orient it in the same way (latch up), split the connector and plug the 4-pin into MoBo 4-pin slot.
1x 8-pin goes only into PSU.
