refurbished GPU worth it?

Hello community!
I was looking for a GTX 980 to see what the prices were like, and they shoot up to $700 for some models which is personally bs for a GPU that is only slightly better than the 1060 yet much worse than the 1070. I kept looking until I found a model by MSI, which was still expensive, but I found it for $199.99 refurbished.
now, I've heard people say that buying things refurbished, especially GPUs, can be sketchy, or a bad idea, due to the shorter lifespan, and generally being a gamble.
I'll leave the link and hearing your opinions on this GPU and refurbished GPUs in general would be great.

thanks!

I'm really, really wary of buying refurb or private sale for GPU's in the current climate. Not only do they often have that shorter warranty, but additionally the origin of their faults and usage is obscured. Was it worked to death in the mines before they replaced the only chip having problems? That sort of thing.

From a trusted seller,if you know the history of the card etc I'd say fine .
I've bought cards From trusted associates that I know were used for mining but that I also, know we're well looked after & cooled.

From amazon though ?

Read that thread & make an informed decision ,my personal decision would be no.
At $199 there will be something very sketchy about that 980.
