Hey all.

So firstly this is an old PC indeed. I have the motherboard and processor with me. The board supports 8GB up to 1333 Mhz. I spotted a pair of Corsair XMS3 2x4GB 1600Mhz RAM in a forum which I could use for this system. I'm gonna use it for streaming and file storing/sharing. I would like to know for sure if the pair of XMS3 RAM sticks will work for sure with the G41 chipset board as it only works with low density memory sticks. Kindly assist.

CPU: C2Q 8400

Motherboard: GA-G41MT-S2 (Rev. 1.5) [Support for DDR3 1333(O.C.)]

RAM: 2x4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600Mhz

Alternate choice if not
Corsair Value Select 2x4GB DDR3 1333Mhz

or
Corsair Value Select 2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz

Thanks & Regards

Solution
First of all, non matched sticks can not be guaranteed to work properly.
Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
The internal workings are designed for the capacity of the kit.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards, can be very sensitive to this.

That said, DDR3 ram usually is ok, just not 100% certain.

On speed, DDR3 ram will run at a lower 1333 speed if it is advertised at 1600 speed.

To be certain of compatibility, pick a supported kit from the motherboard QVL list...

Unless someone has that exact motherboard and that exact RAM kit, no one can say with any certainty that it will work.

That said, I don't understand why you would bother with DDR3-1600 RAM if the motherboard only supports up to DDR3-1333 RAM and that only via OC. Since the processor you have is the Q8400, I'd stick with the Corsair Value Select 2x4GB DDR3 1333Mhz.

@Wolfshadw & @Fix_that_Glitch Thanks for the reply. It's Win 10 64-bit indeed and works fine. I have a pair of generic non-matching RAM sticks with different JEDEC values on each stick and the board can do 1333Mhz (will only work with low density sticks). So I just wanna know if the 1600Mhz XMS3 will work actually. If not then to the 1600Mhz Value Select modules cos 1333Mhz units are hard to find.

Or, if you have some ram in mind, go to the vendor's ram selection app and see if it is explicitly supported on your motherboard.
