Hello good people,

I have this GTX 1060-3GB dedicated graphics card which is showing a total of 7 GB memory. So, does this extra memory come from the RAM? If it is, then does it anyhow affect the performance of the RAM? And finally does this shared memory actually help to boost gaming performance? I mean will I get kind of the same performance of that of a GTX 1060-6GB card from this one? Thanks!

Solution
Comes from your much slower system ram, which is by no means a replacement for fast vram. Its not to boost performance really, its just if you need it, but you will likely notice significant performance drop and sutttering.

You will not get similar performance to the 6gb version, because the 6gb version is actually more powerful due to having more cuda cores.
