Hi guys, Need help here.

My issue cropped up after I fondled with the Registry accidently using a programme.

Just before my tweakings, My Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY edition and TRINE 2 graphics were pristine on my
winFAST Nvidia GEforce GTS 450.
Windows XP 32 bit.

After my tweakings, Game graphics look so sucky they put me off both games.

There are no issues with the drivers, I've just updated them. No Problems with unrecognized video cards either.

Been reading through the forums, but I think my problem is kinda unique(I asked for it, i know)

I've stumbled upon something that I think can solve my issue but I need expert guidance in navigating the trobleshooting options.

what i think is happening, Windows is loading a third party video driver (???), and not my NVIDIA card-- when I troubleshoot according to microsoft support

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314854/EN-US

"To verify exactly which video drivers you expect your Windows operating system to load, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\hardware\DeviceMap\Video
The Device\Video0 value points to a registry key that has the location of the video driver that Windows is configured to load."

Mine appears as
\Registry\Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{1D9D047B-9444-4FAE-BD37-5A1BFAFB6140}\0000

(I'm not sure what does that link to)

when I try to locate the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\videodriver\Device0

My search ends at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\

because it does not have a subset for videodriver. under Services, it has
vgasave
viaIde
Volsnap
Vss
VxD
but no subset "videodriver"

I can't proceed further... Please help!

Can anyone advise how do I manually edit the registry to recognize my Nvidia Card?

Thanks so Much!

What was the programme you were using, and did it automatically do a registry backup before making changes.

You could use system restore point from prior to using the programme that messed thing up:
Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\System32\Restore\Rstrui.exe, and then click OK.
On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
On the Select a Restore Point page, click the system checkpoint. In the On this list select the restore point area, click an entry that is named "Guided Help (Registry Backup)," and then click Next. If a System Restore message appears that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make, click OK.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration and then restarts the computer.
Log on to the computer. When the System Restore confirmation page appears, click OK.

Otherwise i haven't got clue., short of a clean install.

Thanks Gee Bee for the reply. I'm so sorry I forgot to mention I did try system restore. But the (even bigger) problem is my registry edit konked out my system restore. for good. My computer can no longer restore itself. After a restart, it will say on screen that the restore failed. I've tried previous points before I figuratively stuck a screwdriver into my PC's brain, all failed.

Thanks again! :)
