I havent really found this question answered on the forums so here I go.

So i want to buy a 250 GB SSD for my OS, and I currently have Windows 10 and all my files in a 2 TB HDD. I would like to know If there is a way to do a fresh Installation of Windows onto the SSD without losing my files. I don't mind reinstalling all the programs and drivers, but I really need to keep Documents, Photos, Videos, etc on my HDD. I also dont have a CD, USB, or external HDD that I can use to install Windows 10 or to backup the files.

Thanks

No, that won't work.
With the internal Windows 'Reset', you can't...
The answer is an obvious "yes." Since there is absolutely no relationship between the new SSD and any of your files, there is absolutely no way that you can lose your files.

Maybe you are not asking the question correctly because the answer is so obvious that maybe that is why it has never been asked before.

Of course, during installation you unplug your existing hard drive, but that part is a given. One little thing, make sure you update your new installation of Windows 10 on the SSD completely, restart it at least 3 or 4 times, and then plug your existing hard drive back in.

Im sorry I didnt make myself clear. What I meant is, in Windows 10, there is a Reset Option, which allows you to do a clean installation of Windows without using and installation CD or USB drive. You just hit recovery and It reinstalls Windows 10. I would like to know how to do the same but this time, installing it onto the SSD. (I do not have a CD or USB drive to install Windows atm)

No, that won't work.
With the internal Windows 'Reset', you can't designate a new and different drive.

Solution

You have to follow the directions that I posted for you up thread, right before your last post.

Just one more note. If you follow the directions I posted for you, it is real quick and easy and you do not have to download any of your existing software again, it will already be loaded on your hard drive. And of course, you will not lose any of your files, they will all be safe.

Good luck. If you have any problems one of the folks here can assist you.
